How flavor scores and reviews work
Nine flavor dimensions
Sweet: sugars and sweeteners. Salty: salt and selected salty ingredients. Tangy: acidic ingredients and mustard. Smoky: smoke and smoked ingredients. Spicy: recognizable pepper heat. Savory / umami: ingredients such as soy, mushrooms, yeast extract, tomato, and onion. Garlicky: garlic. Herbal: recognizable herbs. Citrusy: lemon, lime, orange, and related citrus.
How we estimate a score
The analyzer reads ingredients in label order. Recognized ingredients contribute rule-based signals; earlier ingredients receive more weight. Contributions are added, rounded, and capped at 10. A dash means no recognized signal, not that a flavor is absent. Compound ingredients stay grouped.
Amounts, proprietary spice blends, cooking methods, serving sizes, and personal taste remain unknown. A 7 is an exploratory signal, not a laboratory result or a tasting-panel rating. Sweetener signals do not establish sugar content; salty signals do not measure sodium. Check the current package for nutrition and allergens.
How matches work
The finder compares your selected intensity preferences with recognized signals. Coverage shows how many selected notes were available. A high fit with limited coverage is incomplete evidence, so compare the full ingredient list.
Learning from customer taste feedback
Signed-in tasters can report less, about right, or more for each flavor against the original, uncalibrated estimate. Unknown flavors use a 0–10 customer rating and do not train ingredient weights. One changeable vote per account, product, and flavor counts; purchases are not verified.
Calibration version 1 requires at least 60 votes from 30 accounts across five products, with 70% agreeing on a direction. At least five products must each have five votes; 80% of those products must individually reach 70% agreement. Learning uses only a single identifiable flavor ingredient, excludes compound ingredients and unspecified spices or flavors, and excludes saturated scores. Votes on an old ingredient list do not train the current model.
Eligible ingredient signals receive a single 10% increase or decrease across all matching ingredient entries in the finder, analyzer, and product pages. This does not compound with every vote. Adjustments are recalculated from current evidence and revert if thresholds no longer hold. Scores stay within 0–10. Exact ingredient wording matters; we do not assume related ingredients are equivalent. These thresholds are cautious operating rules, not scientific proof that an ingredient caused the difference.
Sources and corrections
Product pages show their source and the date recorded. Formulas can change. Community ingredients and label photos are submitted by visitors and are not independently verified. Approval does not certify accuracy. The current manufacturer label takes precedence.
Customer review policy
Signed-in customers may submit one review per product. Reviews wait for owner approval. Relevant positive and negative experiences are welcome; spam, harassment, personal information, unrelated content, and misleading promotional claims should be rejected. We do not verify purchases. Published averages use only approved customer star ratings and never ingredient scores.
